DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VISION AND MISSION
A VISION STATEMENT

It works like a North Star to keep the church moving in the right direction to achieve its mission. Keyword What? An Example A healthy church representing God`s Kingdom in every community. |
A MISSION STATEMENT
Definition A brief paragraph that tells how your church or organization achieves its vision. It gives “legs and feet” to the vision. Keyword How? An Example To equip church leaders with the tools and resources to strengthen and multiply healthy churches: 1. Training leaders Developing a network of national mentors who will be able to train church planters. • Working with national believers • Through local churches • As we “train the trainers” 2. Providing reproducible materials.Creating textbooks, workbooks and modules that can be downloaded and used freely across the world. • Using virtual offices • Maximizing the use of technology |
WHY IS A MISSION STATEMENT IMPORTANT?
1. What might happen if a church’s mission is not clearly defined?
• Lack of FOCUS
• Constant CONFUSION over what should be done
• FRUSTRATION that the church isn’t moving toward its vision
• More DISAGREEMENTS between members of the leadership team
2. Benefits of a Mission Statement
• Tasks are clearly LINKED to the vision/goal.
• Leaders know what needs to be done and don’t WASTE time on non-essential tasks.
• Leaders don’t argue repeatedly about what needs to be done.
• Tasks that don’t lead to the vision can be ELIMINATED.
USING YOUR MISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS
1. Study and MEMORIZE the vision and mission statements, and motivate your team to do the same.
2. FRAME the statements and put them on the wall of your office, at home and at church.
3. INCLUDE them in the church’s operations manual.
4. REPEAT them over and over until they are internalized by everyone on the ministry team.
5. REVIEW them regularly to make sure you are staying on track
