Ministers' Responsibilities

Picture
Pastor’s Administrative Responsibilities.

Good Administration also requires making sure that the leader of a church or church plant is well physically, emotionally, and spiritually and that he or she has healthy relationships starting with their spouse and family, leaders, and people in the church. An unhealthy pastor can cause his or her congregation to be unhealthy. There are a number of things we do to make sure this threat is minimized.

We must ensure that every pastor is examined and has passed the requirements to be in ministry. Pastors may obtain credentials from GCC or from any other credible organization. The credentials must at all times be current.
Five additional issues are addressed in order to retain credentials. Even though a pastor may hold credentials from another organization, these five issues apply and must be fulfilled.
  1. Police Report.
Every pastor who has an appointment from Gilgal Christian Community through the office of The Church Planter must provide us with a police report and this must be renewed every 3 years. Those without pastoral appointments (Pastor Emeritus or National Office Pastors) do not have to provide us with a police report.

  2. Code of Ethics.
Every pastor who has an appointment from Gilgal Christian Community through the office of The Church Planter must read, agree to abide by, and sign the code of ethics. This is a specific document that states what is expected in the life and practice of our pastors.

  3. Spiritual and Emotional Evaluation.
Every other year our lead pastors will meet with The Church Planter to review how they are doing spiritually and emotionally. There is no pass/fail. The objective is to help pastors in their daily struggles. All evaluations are personal and only read by The Church Planter. They are kept under lock and key and are not accessible to anyone and they are destroyed at the end of the year. There are no records kept of this file.  It is the responsibility of The Church Planter to do this review every other year and it is the responsibility of each lead pastor to do a review of their staff in the same way.

  4. Plan to Protect.
Every Pastor must take a seminar (when receiving an appointment and every five years after that) from Plan to Protect. This will give the pastor an adequate knowledge of how to protect children, youth, seniors, or other vulnerable persons in the church and community.

  5. Pastor’s Report.
Each pastor is asked to provide a monthly report on the activities and results of the ministry. The report focuses on the pastor’s overall workload and will help him or her to focus on pathways forward for church growth numerically, spiritually, and for the development of emerging leaders.
