31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.”
32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”
33 Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?”
34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. John 4:31-34
Your mission will have various aspects and projects and you will need to harmonize these with your church planting launch. The launch needs to be well planned and it should be a time when you can express your vision, values and mission. This is a time when the mission begins. Be prepared
The core leaders need to be encouraged to work together on short term projects to start with. This should be designed with great prayer and thoughtfulness. It should not only be well planned but the team should know their roles and be committed to minister with excellence. You do not get a second chance to make a first impression.
Normally church plants can not possibly compete with larger, well organized, and well equipped and staffed churches. Choose no more than three things that you want to do well. Here are some suggestions that your team can commit to.
1. Relationships. Smaller churches can really excel in this area and are often better at this than larger ones. Friendliness, interest, and concern are great to start with. Fuss over people. Pray for them. Listen to them. And don't forget hospitality. Plan for some time mingling after the service over snacks and coffee.
2. Outreach. One of the things about human beings is that they like "new things". Your church plant is a new thing and it is a reason to invite everyone you know. Why not plan some outreach in the neighbourhood?
3. Preaching and Teaching. There are plenty of great preachers and teachers today but that does not mean that you should not do your very best. What is important is whether God is speaking to people whom you are preaching to. Prayer and research and listening to God's voice will go a long way to touching people's heart. If the Holy Spirit is not at work in the preaching not much can be done. It is all about God touching people through the message.
4. Children and Youth. Finding a way to minister to the children and youth will be very important to some people who come through the doors. You don't need a lot, just a few people who covenant together to work with them.
