21. Personal Values

In addition to biblical values, the church planter should also define his or her core organizational values. These values will be
determined by the purposes of the new church and will take the context into account.

“Every action taken in the organization must adhere to the core values, which are prioritized. For every core value, the organization
must complete the following sentence: ‘We will know that we are living under this value when…’” 1

“A good value is biblical, it creates passion, it is shared with others, it is constant, it can be expressed clearly, it is consistent with other values, and it can be implemented.” 2

What is it that you value? When you have a core value it is something you will not sacrifice. It will define you and be an endearing characteristic. These are the qualities that people see and how they would describe you. It is the same with the church plant. They may not see your vision, but they should be able to describe you by the qualities of your core values. Your vision statement will attract leaders to your church plant. Your Core Values and your value statement will attract people to attend your church. The core values of the church plant should be a manifestation of the core values of the church planter.

Here is a sample: These core values come from an unknown source but describe a church.

AS A CHURCH WE VALUE HAVING
Hearts for God
Minds for the truth
Knees for prayer
Mouths for encouraging
Hands for caring
Feet for going

Another Unknown Church Source describes its values in this way:

WE VALUE

Community Transformation
Authentic Relationships
Passionate Discovery
Compelling Enviroments
